Southern Pacific Tunnel Motor with Mars Light and Blowing for Squaw Butte Rd, Oregon 1986

Short video of Southern Pacific’s SP 8365 on the head end of a manifest train blowing for Squaw   Butte Road near Oakridge, Oregon. The lead unit is equipped with a Mars Light that has an oscillating beam to warn motorists. Today you’ll rarely find them in use because they’ve been replaced by ditch lights. I’ve only seen them on former outdated SP units being used by short line Railroads.  Also in the head consist is a unit painted in Southern Pacific’s Kodachrome paint scheme, SP 7399. Video thanks to Gregory L. Baker.
