Commissioner Sid Leiken Helping explain $35 Vehicle Registration Hike

Lane County has a 9 million dollar shortfall in the county’s road fund. The county commissioners are allowing the voters to chose for a $35 vehicle registration fee increase. The increase would generate an estimated 11 million per a year, but 40 percent would go to Eugene and other cities within the county. The measure will be on the May 19 ballot as Measure 20-231. Oregon’s vehicle registration is purchased in 2 year increments. So, at renewal time the increase would be $70 per vehicle.
